Sébastien Josse and Edmond de Rothschild 3rd in the Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe
Before setting sail from Saint Malo, France on 2 November, Sébastien Josse reckoned that coming fourth in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe would already be a very fine result and a sure sign that he had been able to make the very best of his steed’s potential against the giants of the Ultime class. However, the skipper of the Multi70 Edmond de Rothschild has done a lot better than that! Pulling off a race start that enlightened observers described as staggering, the Nice-based sailor managed to stand up to the large craft in his category to finally secure 3rd place at the finish. At the helm of the trimaran fitted out by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, a 21-metre multihull initially designed to be sailed in crewed configuration, Sébastien Josse has entered the major league for multihull sailors overnight.

This Tuesday 11 November, on crossing the finish line at 03 hours 47 minutes and 09 seconds (GMT) offshore of Pointe de la Verdure in Gosier, the skipper of the Multi70 Edmond de Rothschild has secured 3rd place in this 2014 edition. In so doing, he completes a most prestigious and eclectic podium. Indeed, he joins Loïck Peyron and his 31.50-metre trimaran (Banque Populaire VII), who added his name to the list of event winners yesterday, and Yann Guichard on his 40-metre multihull (Spindrift 2), who secured 2nd place.

The trimaran fitted out by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild took 8 days, 14 hours, 47 minutes and 9 seconds to cover the theoretical 3,540 nautical miles separating Pointe-à-Pitre from the corsair city. In terms of actual distance over the ground, the sailor-boat pairing devoured nearly 4,403 miles, which equates to an average speed of 21.29 knots. Sébastien Josse finished 23 hours 38 minutes and 37 seconds behind the winner. An incredible performance for the skipper of the smallest boat of the Ultime category and it is worth pointing out here that it is his first solo transatlantic aboard a multihull.
