« The Grand Prix de Galice was not easy! Wind was rather light in Vigo once again, with the ria blocking the course because of the coasts. Compulsory legs reduced tactical possibilities a great deal. For the other trimarans, it was not much of a problem, but Gitana X had no choice but to follow the same options, then it came down to a matter of pure speed. We couldn't do anything that astonishing therefore, in spite of one or two good starts, the odd good option here and there in Vigo Bay on the first day. Manœuvres, tracks, how to place ourselves and crew cohesion progressed but the wind was still lacking. We really do need 15 to 20 knots before we can do anything interesting. Our navigation unit was not working properly and so we had no info about wind strength or direction, which doesn't facilitate things when the breeze drops and the wind shifts ! »
Frédéric Le Peutrec (Gitana 11) :
« There was little thermal wind on the course which was however to be expected in the ria. Not much difference between Marseille and Vigo, apart from the level of contact on the starting line, which did not go in our favour either – once in favour of Banque Populaire, twice on Géant, once on Groupama-2. And for the last round, we set off on the wrong side in spite of having got things right just before the start, but in a matter of minutes, the wind had changed. Our opponents are getting better all the time and in light air, the rest of the fleet is very much on a par. There's not much in it, but you can tell that everyone – with the exception of Groupama-2 – messed up on at least one occasion in Vigo. The difference between Géant, Banque Populaire and Foncia has become very slight. »
