Heading northward

Another day on the big blue as we sail up the coast of Peru, with Chile in our wake. Yesterday we covered a net distance of 365 miles, our best day since rounding Cape Horn, but we have a ways to go. Onboard, we're all dreaming about the idea of advancing more than 600 miles on the map. Our chances are slim to nil of that happening before we cross the equator, which is expected overnight from 18 to 19 February. The trade wind should slacken, but today will be our last day of zigzagging. From now on, we'll steer a northward course on a direct route toward the doldrums, currently located between 97°W and 102°W.

Have a nice weekend.
