Race start and tracking of the Transat Jacques Vabre so you don’t miss a thing!
It’s at 12:30 GMT this Sunday, offshore of Cap de la Hève that the 12th Transat Jacques Vabre will kick off. However, the Edmond de Rothschild duo and the forty-one other pairings competing in this 2015 edition are already out on the water, off Le Havre, where they will have to sit it out until the starting gun releases them on this famous transatlantic race. As such, we take this opportunity to review how to track the start and the race using a device set up by the organisation and the Gitana Team.
RACE START

A coastal course to Etretat before heading for Brazil

Before they can sample the offshore delights, the Transat Jacques Vabre fleet will have to complete a 16-mile coastal course along the Alabaster Coast. The 1.6-mile start line will be set in line with the Cap de la Hève, just a stone’s throw from Le Havre and the Sainte-Adresse district. Once they’re over this line, the forty-two competing boats will make towards Etretat. However, before they reach the iconic chalky cliffs, where two course marks in immediate proximity of the coast have to be left to port, the Mono60 Edmond de Rothschild and its rivals will have to leave the DA d’Antifer mark, situated 9.5 miles from the start, to starboard. According to the latest weather forecasts, this course will be run in some particularly mild conditions: 5 to 10 knots of easterly wind and smooth seas. This gentle introduction to proceedings will enable what are expected to be big crowds on the water to enjoy the show-stopping spectacle put on by the fleet in this 12th edition.

12:20 GMT: the sailors are alone aboard; the shore crews must have left the boats.

12:22 GMT: beginning of the start procedure.

12:30 GMT: official start of the Transat Jacques Vabre.
