The Gitana Team, the enthusiasm of one man

The story of the Gitana Team began in 2000, thanks to the enthusiasm of one man: Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. Since that time, this highly effective ocean racing stable – the only one of its kind in France – has continued to evolve and improve, driven by a team spirit and shared objectives.

Based in Saint-Philibert, not far from La Trinité-sur-Mer, the team benefits from an ultra-modern technical platform to consider, prepare and adjust the various supports which bear the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group.

Gitana Team is a leading ocean-racing stable which saw the purchase of the former Elf Aquitaine III, which went on to become Gitana IX, the design and construction of Gitana X in 2002, then the commissioning of Gitana 11 (ex-Belgacom) in 2004, and Gitana 12 (ex-Bonduelle) in 2006, to replace Gitana X.

In 2007, a year after the arrival of Loïck Peyron at the head of the Gitana Team, the fleet diversified: Gitana 11, the 60 foot Orma multihull and outright winner of the Route du Rhum 2006, will now be accompanied by Gitana Eighty, a 60 foot monohull, and Gitana 13, a 33 metre maxi-catamaran dedicated to discovery.

The year 2008 and the numerous successes gleaned by Gitana Eighty and Gitana 13 prove the appropriateness of this desire for openness.

The original motivations, so dear to the Rothschild Family are intact : team spirit, performance, the transcending of one's own capabilities and a search for excellence today being the key words of the Gitana Team.
