The story of the Gitana Team began in 2000, thanks to the enthusiasm of one man: Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. Since that time, this highly effective ocean racing stable – the only one of its kind in France – has continued to evolve and improve, driven by a team spirit and shared objectives.
Based in Saint Philibert, not far from La Trinité-sur-Mer, the team benefits from an ultra-modern platform to consider, prepare and adjust the various craft which sport the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group
Since the genesis of the Gitana Team there have been no less than eight craft which have formed part of the ocean racing stable. It all began with the purchase of the former Elf Aquitaine III, which became Gitana IX. Very soon after that, the story continued with the design and construction of Gitana X in 2002, followed by the fitting out of Gitana 11 (ex-Belgacom) in 2004, and Gitana 12 (ex-Bonduelle) in 2006, to replace Gitana X

In 2007, the fleet diversified: Gitana 11, the 60 foot Orma multihull and outright winner of the Route du Rhum 2006, was joined by Gitana Eighty, a 60 foot Imoca monohull, and Gitana 13, a 33 metre maxi-catamaran dedicated to races against the clock and discovery.
The year 2009 has been an important year in the Gitana Team’s history with the modification (17 foot extension) and launch of Gitana 11, the second of that name, with the aim of participating in the Route du Rhum 2010, not to mention the participation of a 40 foot catamaran, Gitana Extreme - LCF Rothschild Group, in the European Extreme 40 circuit.
The original driving forces, so dear to the Rothschild Family, remain intact: team spirit, performance, transcending one’s own capabilities and the search for excellence are the key words of the Gitana Team today
