Built in 2000 for Jean Le Cam, Gitana 12 is symptomatic of the current generation from where nearly all the trimarans on the circuit have stemmed: a large beam, pre-impregnated carbon structure, raised beams, coffee grinders, voluminous floats…
However, from season to season, the VPLP architectural firm, has developed the platforms and the crews have optimised the deck layouts to speed up manoeuvres. Very light originally, this trimaran therefore needed to be fully checked before lining up for the Multicup 60'. This verification was performed by Gitana Team's shore crew in its workshops at Saint Philibert (56) alongside Gitana 11. The objective was also to stay as close as possible to the two trimarans so that certain parts were interchangeable like the mast, sails, appendages...
Very similar to Gitana 11 in its characteristics, the trimaran essentially differs in the shape of its floats and its central hull. The boat was totally stripped thanks to a new starch powder sprayer, validated on a structural level and lightened as much as possible. Certain parts of Gitana 11 have been adapted such as the mast and the centreboard… and others have been transformed to achieve the same design such as the long cockpit or the helming stations...
A compléter par Tiphaine, parce qu'on ne parle pas du tout des événements auquel G12 a participé, même sous les couleurs Gitana.
