Gitana 13’s voyage
Virtually a year to the day since her long record campaign taking her around the globe, the maxi-catamaran equipped by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild is back on the ocean route this week.

For two months, Gitana 13 will set sail for the various entities of the LCF Rothschild Group, which notably border the Mediterranean. A voyage in eight destinations during which the crewmen of the giant of the seas will attempt to set a reference time between Gibraltar and Tel Aviv, in the form of a West-East Trans-Mediterranean record. This attempt, approved by the WSSRC, is set to take place in mid-September.

An hour after casting off, Léopold Lucet sent us a few lines from the onboard computer: “That’s it… After several months being refitted and prepared in La Trinité-sur-Mer, Gitana 13 is once again bound for the open ocean. After a small coffee aboard with all the crew, we headed out to sea at 0900 hours. With the initial spray already whipping up around us, we think of all the members of the Gitana Team who have worked with us to get our revamped boat back on the water. Our first destination: Port Médoc, in the Gironde estuary.”
