A few hours from the goal

The low has been true to form and the men aboard Gitana 13 have experienced one of the most lively days so far on this their tenth day at sea. They've had to deal with the most violent of winds, massive seas and impressive storms, racking up the miles no matter what was thrown at them; such was the setting off the coast of East Japan for Lionel Lemonchois and his ten crew. 271 miles from Yokohama this morning and boosted by a lead of over 914 miles on the reference time, they should conclude their...

Off again !

The passage of the cold front was already shaping up to be a little tricky for Lionel Lemonchois and his ten men to negotiate, but storms then stepped in to further complicate matters for Gitana 13. In fact, a temporary breathlessness on the part of the wind gods has already set the nerves of the eleven sailors on edge. Since this time though, the wind has kicked back in again and the maxi-catamaran in the colours of LCF Rothschild Group is making up for lost time by snatching back some precious...

Pacific glides

Since leaving San Francisco last Saturday at 22h45'45'' UT, Lionel Lemonchois and his crew have been racking up the miles at a steady pace – an average of over 21 knots – as they jump from one weather system to another. This strategy has paid off as, after just four days of racing, the 33 metres maxi-catamaran has a good lead over the reference time.

Already 1,000 miles on the counter

In order to make the maximum of headway on Gitana 13's journey to Yokohama, Lionel Lemonchois has opted to follow a course coloured by feisty conditions, putting a strain on both the men and the machine. The strategy has paid off however as at this morning's 0730 ranking, the sailors of Gitana Team had clocked up 1,000 miles towards the goal and had a lead of over 324 miles on the current reference time. Aboard the maxi-catamaran equipped by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, everyone is adapting to this...
