After setting out from Saint Nazaire on Sunday at 1735 UT, the fleet of Imoca 60 footers made it back into the Loire Estuary this Tuesday morning. Crossing the finish line at 0544’07’’ UT, Loïck Peyron and his four crew – Cyril Dardashti, Antoine Mermod, Didier Le Vourc’h and Sébastien Thétiot – add the Record SNSM to Gitana Eighty’s list of wins. The monohull in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group covered the 360 miles of the course in 1 day 12 hours 9 minutes and 7 seconds, completing yet another performance to reinforce Gitana Eighty’s domination, unbeaten since last winter.

Good start for Gitana Eighty in the Record SNSM

The start of the 4th edition of the Record SNSM saw the fleet power away late this Sunday afternoon off Saint Nazaire on France’s Atlantic coast. As usual this event, in honour of the lifeboatmen and women, provided a fantastic spectacle, with a mix of monohulls and multihulls, professionals and amateur yachtsmen on a single race zone. In the end it was at 1735 UT, a few minutes after the amateurs participating in this 2008 edition, that the fleet of Imoca monohulls set off from the eastern jetty in the port of Saint Nazaire. Heading offshore with the second group of racers, the monohull in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group quickly shot towards the front of the fleet.

Gitana 13 in refit in Hong Kong

The Gitana Team couldn’t have imagined a better start to the season... Full house for Gitana 13 in its record campaign and success for Gitana Eighty in its programme of races, with the notable inclusion of Loïck Peyron’s historic triple in The Transat, rewarding the work of the whole team. The fleet in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group clearly has the wind on their tail and has no intention of stopping there! Whilst Gitana 13 is benefiting from a few weeks well earned rest prior to setting out on its final attempt in its 2008 schedule, the Tea Route, Gitana Eighty will take the start of the Record SNSM this Sunday.

At 1800 hours on Sunday 22nd June, the monohull in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group, will take the start of the Record SNSM. The event honours those who save lives at sea and it is changing its format for the fourth edition, offering a course which is twice the distance for those competing in the Imoca class. Indeed, boats measuring in excess of 50 feet will set out from Saint Nazaire, on France’s Atlantic coast on Sunday, to complete a round trip of over 568 miles, rounding a mark off Saint Malo.

Gitana 13 set off on Friday 30th May at 10h33’33’’ UT, on its fourth and penultimate record in its Asian tour. The 465 mile course will take Lionel Lemonchois and his crew from Taipei to Hong Kong, from the East China Sea to the South China Sea, passing via the infamous Taiwan Strait. Otherwise known as the Formosa Strait, it separates continental China from the island of Taiwan. This latest record attempt by the Gitana Team promises to be full-on but quick.

The record-breaking race : Gitana Eighty wins The Transat 2008 for Gitana Team

Twelve years after his last victory in The Transat (formerly Ostar), Loïck Peyron has rewritten the record books on crossing the finish line of the 13th edition of the race at 03h15’35” UT this Saturday 24th May. An historic achievement which surpasses even that of legendary French sailor Eric Tabarly, by becoming the only person in history to have won this legendary single-handed transatlantic race between the UK and the United States a total of three times. With this win in Boston, Loïck Peyron provides the LCF Rothschild Group and Gitana Team with their second successive victory in a single-handed transatlantic race in less than two years!

Positioned 99 miles from Boston late afternoon this Friday (1600 UT ranking), Gitana Eighty is expected across The Transat finish line tonight at around 0100 UT. Now on a direct course towards Boston and enjoying a lead of over 35 miles on his closest rival, Loïck Peyron is heading towards an unprecedented triple. An incredible performance which is something he sincerely hoped for, but didn’t dare express when setting out from Plymouth 12 days ago… Peyron better than Tabarly? Verdict in just a few hours…

With the high emotion of yesterday somewhat dispersed, Loïck Peyron has got back into his rhythm and is hot-footing it towards the coast of Nova Scotia this Wednesday. Less than 550 miles from the finish, the monohull in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group was in the thick of the action this afternoon. The leader of The Artemis Transat, like his two pursuers, are likely to have to negotiate a fairly deep low, which will provide some lively conditions on the decks of the Imoca monohulls…

Setting out from Qingdao late morning on Sunday 18th May - at 09h 58’19’’ UT - bound for Taipei, the maxi-catamaran in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group is performing a more rapid descent towards the island of Taiwan than forecast, despite having to round a zone of high pressure.
Boston and the finish line are looming up fast this afternoon, less than 900 miles ahead of the top duo, still comprised of Loïck Peyron and Vincent Riou. However, the weather situation over the coming days promises to be particularly complicated, and certainly won't make life any easier for the sailors. Between the passages of fronts and zones of light winds, the ten solo sailors still in the running following the retirement of Michel Desjoyeaux, Sébastien Josse and most recently Unaï Basurko, will need to be sailing at 100% of their capacity and their lucidity in order to cover this final third of the course.

Setting out from Qingdao late yesterday morning, the maxi-catamaran in the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group have set a good pace over the first part of the course. By economising on the number of manoeuvres, and aided by a stronger breeze than originally banked on, Lionel Lemonchois and his crew have managed to rack up the miles. At 1500 hours UT, Gitana 13 was just 403 miles from Taipei.

Setting out from Plymouth just a week ago, the fleet of Imoca monohulls now comprises eleven sailors in The Artemis Transat 2008. After Michel Desjoyeaux on Thursday, it was the turn of Sébastien Josse to turn back yesterday following technical issues. This withdrawal has enabled Vincent Riou to take the controls, closely tailed by Loïck Peyron, around twenty miles astern. At 1400 UT, Gitana Eighty was positioned 1,341 miles from Boston.

Excess speeds weren't on today's programme for the twelve solo sailors in The Artemis Transat 2008. As forecast, the calms have enveloped the head of the Imoca fleet and the sailors have simply had to put up with the conditions as they try to extract themselves from this tricky zone. At the 1400 UT ranking, the top trio, composed of Sébastien Josse, Vincent Riou and Loïck Peyron respectively, were gradually starting to clock up more respectable speeds but they're not out of the woods yet.
