Gitana, a steam schooner was built at the request of Baronne Adolphe de Rothschild and was the first yacht of the Gitana line.

Built by Thornycroft at Chiswick, created to cruise both comfortably and quickly on Léman Lake, Gitana beat the world speed record on water: 20,5 knots or 38 km/h. Gitana moved 68 tons and measured 24,45 meters.
