Antoine Mermond grew up in Brittany, sat his school leaving exams in Lyons and then studied maths to an advanced level at Nantes before enrolling in an engineering school in Rennes and Paris (ENSTA), where he specialised in naval engineering. Introduced to sailing through cruising with his parents, Antoine took part in the winter training series and the Tour de France à la Voile… As he continued his studies, Bruno Peyron took him on as part of his shore team for his Club Explorer catamaran. To complete his engineering training, he took part in the design of Sergio Tacchini, spending six months with architect Nigel Irens in 2001. Subsequently, he joined Karine Fauconnier’s team and after two seasons as part of the sailing team and as development engineer ashore, he joined the Gitana Team at the end of 2004.
