Warm-up laps in the Solent
24 hours before hostilities begin in Cowes, the nine Extreme 40s present in the Isle of Wight to contest the 3rd stage of the 2009 circuit, have had the chance to discover the capriciousness of the local waters, which they’ll have to tame over the next three days.

Winning one of the three training races contested this Friday, the men aboard Gitana Extreme – LCF Rothschild Group got the measure of the race zone and were able to gain some insight into the hazards caused by the strong currents of the Solent. However, the shifty and rather light wind which prevailed throughout the day, should leave the way clear tomorrow for a steady breeze of 15 knots or more. According to the latest weather forecasts, racing will initially be coloured by a SW’ly wind before clocking round to the NW as a cold front kicks in during the course of the afternoon. Unfortunately this phenomenon is set to be synonymous with rainfall over the South of England.
No matter; all the ingredients are in place for yet another fine spectacle! From 1400 hours tomorrow, the crews will be getting down to the nitty gritty as the first official races begin.

Joint 2nd in the provisional general ranking of the iShares Cup, the dream team gathered together by Yann Guichard, will be keen to continue with their winning form to carry high the colours of the LCF Rothschild Group.
